As a non-governmental and grass-root lawyer, Nan Tong is not a strange place to me. In the past few years, I have been there several times to help defend rights for the residents whose homes were demolished and who were forced to evict because the local government took their property and land. I was once forced to leave because the police accused me of staying there without a permit; however, I had never imagined that right here in Nan Tong I would be arrested before the end of year 2009.
