~Democracy for China: Opportunities Missed and Opportunities Ahead~

One of the world!!!s leading activists for Democracy in China, Dr. Yang is the founder of Initiatives for China, a.k.a. Citizen Power for China, an organization that promotes China!!!s peaceful transition to democracy.  A survivor of Tiananmen and co-author of the Constitution of a Federal Democratic China, Yang has been involved in the democracy movement since the 1980s.   He was imprisoned in China for 5 years for his support of the labor movement.  Among his many achievements: co-chairing the Committee on Internet Freedom at the Geneva Human Rights and Democracy Summit; representing Liu Xiaobo at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, joining H.H. the Dalai Lama and four other delegates to attend Forum 2000 hosted by Vaclav Havel, and receiving the Outstanding Democracy Fighter Award, Morris Abram Human Rights Award, the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom, and Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Achievement Award.
