Next Week!!!s San Francisco Freedom Forum To Feature Speakers Addressing Rwanda, Afghanistan, Syria, Ukraine, North Korea, Cuba, and China
SAN FRANCISCO (September 22, 2016) — The 2016 San Francisco Freedom Forum, taking place on September 29, will bring together activists, entrepreneurs, reporters, technologists, and artists, united by their commitment to make today’s world a more peaceful, prosperous, and free place. The conference theme is “A Celebration of Noble Purpose.”
Programming begins at 9:30am at the Regency Center with talks from four speakers — a beauty queen using her platform to speak out against the Chinese regime, a Cuban activist committed to avenging her father!!!s murder and bringing democracy to her country, an investigative reporter exposing the crimes of Rwanda’s dictator, and a Syrian citizen journalist smuggling video footage out of ISIS-controlled territory.
After the first session, participants will join the Interactive Expo, where they can learn more about encryption, live video, countering censorship, information security, and virtual reality. At the Expo a group of North Korean defectors from Seoul will discuss their efforts to hack Kim Jong-un’s censorship system.
Afternoon talks include a Charlie Hebdo journalist still fighting for press freedom after fatal attacks on her colleagues, an Afghan tech entrepreneur encouraging girls to learn and work in computer science, and a defector who traveled back to North Korea to save her family. Participants will also hear from an international litigator fighting for the rights of the disenfranchised, a Ukrainian anti-corruption advocate, and HRF chairman Garry Kasparov. The conference will conclude at 7:00pm at The Palace Hotel with HRF’s 10 Year Celebration Dinner.
